PII 366 or Celeron 400?

#1 Post by Yenix » Wed Dec 07, 2005 7:18 am

Is it better to buy a full PII 366 with 256kB Cache or Celeron 400 with just 128kB?

Or do you have any idea where to buy a full PIII-400... (No, there are none of them on e-bay...:( )

Please tell us your laptop's type. You can search "MMC2 CPU" on ebay.

You should check eBay periodically for the 400mhz mmc-1. I see them on there about once a week.

Personally, I check every so often because I am contemplating getting one for one of my 233-300mhz 600s. Just hoping to find one with a cheap Buy-It-Now price. Bidding on the 400mhz chips can be a bit ridiculous.

Does the celeron even work for the TP600? I heard that it doesn't work on the TP600 even though it's a MMC-1 socket.

I tried a celeron 400 in my old 600 and it would not even boot. That is another story in itself of an ebay transaction gone bad.
I ended up with a PIII 366 and it was fine. I don't think original 600's accept celerons. I don't know about the E's or X's.

Do you upgrade it from a 233mhz cpu? If yes, do you see any big improvement in the speed of your laptop?

Yes and YES!! :D
It had a 233 and the 366 made a big difference. I also had the memory maxed out.
Later I went to a T23 and never looked back. Wayy Faster!
