600 LCD issue

I'm looking to repair my old TP600. It has an issue where the right hand side of the screen is covered in roughly 1-inch colored bands. If you press on the back of the display, the bands will shift or become unstable, sometimes disappearing, though they'll usually return sooner or later. Am I correct in assuming that this is a problem with the LCD ribbon cable?

This siteoffers some suggestions about LCD problems, including flex cable. See image LINK.

As you indicate only a portion of the screen is affected, it could be a problem in the connection between the actual LCD and the control chips on the back of the screen, possibly caused by warpage. This connection is effected by a rubber strip impregnated with small conductive areas, which is sandwiched between the glass and flexible circuit board (a plastlic like material with circuit tracings). You might be able to completely disassemble the screen, remove the glass from the frame, clean the connecting areas with alcohol or other suitable chemical, then reassemble.

yeah, sounds like the ribbon cable. Split open the LCD cover and check that the ribbon cable connector in the back of the screen is inserted tight.

If you have to replace it:

I've bought a buncha 600 stuff from Dave(thinkpadsales). Good prices, fast shipping..

I have a problem with my TP600's lcd. I only got this laptop in the mail today. When I put my windows 2000 cd in and try to install, the screen is in the center and very small during the setup. When it boots up it displays everything in full screen.

Could this be an issue with the display driver from the cd?

Have you gone into Display Properties and changed it from 640x480 to 1024x768?

Windows 2000 should recognize it and have the correct drivers.

I think I made some confusion here. Let me start over.

When I boot up the laptop(have no harddrive yet), I went into the bois setup and everyth inch on the screen is viewable. However, when I put the cd in and the laptop start to boot it, only a quarter of the screen is used. It's not in 1024x768, but something like 800x600.

This is normal. You need to use the Thinkpad Utilities to enable screen expansion in DOS (the mode you are in while booting).
