I have a 2645-85u DL'd ver1.22 BIOs onto a regularly formated diskette, ia this all I need or should I have put it on a MS-DOS bootup disc, I have to brand new batteries, you can also post on my other thread

Start with a blank formatted diskette in the floppy drive. With the BIOS update file that you downloaded from IBM on your hard drive, double click on the filename spsdib54.exe. This will create the bootable BIOS update diskette. Full instructions below.

Thanks bud , that is what I did, I DL'd it from IBM on my desktop ran the exe inserted a freshly formatted disk when prompted, at it ran tru the motions...10% 20% etc through 100% then complete, is that right or should I have inserted a diskette formatted as a dos start up disk? and if I did do it right , is that all I will need to load new bios once I have changed CMOS battery(It's dead error 192) , considering that there will be no hard rive in yet ,or should I go ahead and install that first too,it is bigger than factory HDD, 20 gigs, and once again thanks for your help

You do not need or use a DOS or Windows startup disk. The BIOS update program you downloaded is all you need to make the bootable floppy.

The only other thing you need is a fully charged main battery, a good CMOS battery, and have the AC power adapter plugged in.

You can install the hard drive after the BIOS update or before. It really doesn't matter.

After the BIOS update you need to go into the BIOS setup menu by pressing F1 at the beginning of the boot up process. Enter the Time and Date, and Initialize the BIOS. Save settings and reboot.

When you install the hard drive, you need to create a primary partition on it - if it doesn't yet have one. Then you need to format the hard drive. After this, you can install Windows or whichever compatible OS that you prefer. Use the OS installation disk to do the partitioning and formatting.
