600 POST Issue

#1 Post by Techno601 » Sun Jul 11, 2004 12:48 am

Hi everyone. I have a 600 that comes up with the 1201 fault and error message. I know this is the IR port but is there any way to bypass this and let it continue booting ? Presumably the device needs to be turned off in the bios but I can find no way to do this.
Thanks.

First thing to try is Easy Setup. To get to Easy Setup, hold down the F1 key while turning on the computer. Keep holding F1 down until you get to Easy Setup (may require a couple of restarts).

Once in Easy Setup, click on the Diagnostics option (the ambulance icon). This will allow you to test the IR port.

The only real way to clear an IR error (assuming that is really what is bad) would be replacing the IR unit. This means replacing the System Board.

An easy way around this is to just get a 600 lower section and transfer your (good) CD, Battery, HD, keyboard, and display.

Hope this helps.
