TP385ED Drive

#1 Post by jwcrim » Sun Jul 11, 2004 11:40 am

I have upgraded the BIOS in our TP-385ED to the most recent ver 1.14 (I1ET48WW). I have a 3.08 GB (DGLA-23080) HDD running Win95.

I would like to get a larger HDD and install Windows 2000. The earliest BIOS versions were supposed to accommodate up to 5.1 GB. Is there any to use a larger (i.e. 20GB) HDD without creating problems?

I have read the article on the thinkpads.com site "Using a large disk in an older ThinkPad" which the writer references some patches "Disk Manager Disk Go" and another one also. He does point out some negatives and the URLs he references are no longer active.

I thought perhaps Windows 2000 and the newest BIOS might be more capable at handling larger partitions.

From Partition Magic's partinfo.exe analysis, it does appear to support INT 13h extensions (see below).

We would appreciate any advice.

From partinfo.exe:

Disk 0: 745 Cylinders, 128 Heads, 63 Sectors/Track.
The BIOS supports INT 13h extensions for this drive.
