Slow Boot - 600X

#1 Post by flybuddy » Sat Dec 17, 2005 3:08 pm

600x, 650 mhz, (should be 448 ram but only shows 392), 12 gig hd, windows 2000 pro. I've got minimal programming on it and the boot up is really sloooooow. Works great after that. Is the answer to upgrade processor/hd?? thx

You didnt say how much RAM is installed... Also, you said minimal programs installed, but what is in the startup list? I dont remember if you can pull up the boot config list like you can in XP (msconfig) or what the bootlist command is for 2000, but try to find it, and uncheck -everything- and see if it boots faster. Once it is a 'clean' boot list, start adding one item at a time and reboot and see where it starts to bog down.

Took your advice, it helped some but the main culprit appears to be "loading security applications" it shows this during boot up for 10+ minutes. Any way I can tone this security down...thx
p.s. - got a neighbor around the corner whose license plate is "skygod"
