I've recently recieved a TP 380 as a cast off from my job. It didn't originally have a cd drive in it, so I did what any good geek would, and hit up pricewatch where I found one for cheap. As soon as it arrived (along with a RAM chip) I proceded to install both. RAM goes in great, CD drive a little more effort, but not too dificult.

Now the problem. The BIOS will *not* accept that I have installed the CD-ROM drive. I cleaned all the conenctions, and it has power, but I can't figure out for the life of me how to get the system to acknowledge that it's there.

Well, I honestly have no idea which version of the bios is in there, but it does have a greyed-out cdrom icon, if that makes a difference.

It's currently running Win95, but that's soon to be replaced with SlackWare. However, I fail to see how the OS matters to the bios detecting the presence of the cd drive, unless it has something to do with that set of commands I noticed in the manual? (not trying to be a smartass, just not sure where you're going with that)

Well anyway here's what I found:

I updated the BIOS in my 385ED and found that the power-up memory test no longer saw 81,000+ kbytes but saw only 16,000+ kbytes.

I had to run the EZ Setup's test function before the BIOS found the memory to be 81,000+.

In your case you added a CDROM so you may also have to run the EZ Setup test function in order for it to be discovered by the BIOS.
