Icons of a Monitor & a Lock when I boot 240

#1 Post by kckc » Tue Dec 20, 2005 11:09 pm

Hello -

I just got a hold of a Thinkpad 240 and am having problems booting - both with and without the hard drive installed.

When I boot up, after the Thinkpad "welcome screen" I get what appear to be an icon of a Monitor and and Icon of a Lock side-by-side.

If I hit return a few times I get little xxxx's and then a hand with a slash through it (i.e., "NO").

Does anyone have any idea what this all means?

Thanks.

It means that you need a password to unlock the machine. It may have been stolen, or the password misplaced.

You might ask the person you got it from for the password.

If i remember correctly, the 240 manual says something about shorting JP1 to clear the password.
