keyboard/mouse problem 570

The keyboard on my thinkpad 570 and the mouse-click is recently deteriorating. It first started that the mouse click doesn't work, now some letter keys don't work either. Does this sound more like a software or hardware problem? Is this fixable?
Thanks

It sounds like someone split something with sugar in it on your laptop before. I know the soap water works on the mouse buttons on TP 240 but I haven't tried it on the keyboard.

Is the any way to take the keyboard off? How to unscrew the machine?
Also I tried to plug in an extrernal keyboard but it does not seem to work, however an external mouse works. There is only one plug in the back that seems to be for both, mouse and keyboard. I read somewhere on the IBM web page that this thinkpad model need a special connector to plug in an external keyboard. Is this something one can pick up easily in a store (like radio shack or compusa) or does one need to order it from IBM?
Thanks

HI,
You can download your Hardware Maintenance Manual from here:
ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pccbbs/mo ... 9n8609.pdf
This will help you with disassembling your 570.
As for the connector to use the keyboard and mouse at the same time, you need a Y-splitter, that will provide two ps2 ports. These can be found at Radio Shack or on eBay.
