is this an acutal HD ware change or is there a firmware update for it..
and if so, does anyone know the site?

USB 2.0 requires a hardware change, not software.

It looks like our James mind was somewhere else… Anyway, he wanted to write PCMCIA not USB 2.0, but other than that he is right. It’s not software upgradeable, but give me a day, and after I finished my finals I’ll look around for a possible solution.

No, I assumed the OP was asking about USB ports even though he wrote PCMCIA. There's no such thing as a version 1.1 or 2.0 PC port, only USB.
PC ports are either Cardbus (32BIT) or non-Cardbus (16BIT).

James

Current T40s have PCMCIA 2.1... (at least mine) so there must be some sort of version number.

ALL Cardbus PC ports are version 2.1, so there is a version number, but I still believe the OP was asking about a USB port as the 390X
is Cardbus enabled so his question didn't make sense to me any other way.

James

Okay.
YOU WON. I give up.

I just don't understand, why does the wireless driver need a USB 2.0? Because it supposed to use the PCMCIA slot. Anyway. Sorry James for causing high blood pressure.

Cardbus needs to be enabled in order to use a 32BIT card in the PC slot, if that's what you're asking.

Hello guys...
Since I am the originator of this , let me quote IBM...
Requirements
" The HIgh Rate Wireless LAN PC Card drivers require PCMCIA 2.0 (or higher)"
So what I am trying to find out is how to upgrade my either software or
firmware to 2.0.. my pcmcia shows its at 1.1
Name PCMCIA.sys
Discription PCMCIA Card Services Device Driver
Vendo IBM
Version 1.1
MY PC Card Director is at ver 3.00
thanks if some one can assist me in finding out how to update this...
. I might be totally off on all this, just trying to figure this out...
thanks again

Those are the
driver versions, not hardware. The PC card slots on the 390X are Cardbus (32BIT) enabled and are therefore PCMCIA hardware version 2.1 compliant. You don't need to install anything for them to work, you just need to enable Cardbus in the Configuration Utility.
