390x Cardbus Adaptor problem

My girlfriend uses a cardbus adaptor for her ethernet connection...I just got her a USB 2.0 adaptor so she could use her ipod and external hard drive with the 390x. The problem is caused when she plugs the USB card in. When she plugs this card in, the ethernet card stops working and will not work again until the USB card is unplugged. Anyone have any advice? Thanks a lot.
