600 E scenario.....

#1 Post by conuk » Wed Dec 28, 2005 6:31 pm

Hmm well I finally got the 600 I was given a CD rom ...(also got an external CD writer via USB to use as well)...

I was going to give it to my girlfriend to use for her nursing assignments... but Santa bought her a Acer £800 laptop for christmas !

so im thinking what I can use this for ....
It has a Xircom ethernet card here... so I guess with the correct cable I can connect it to the internet ?

How about hooking it up to a TV to watch some Divx movies or something ? is this capable of doing this ?

Or should I just sell the little baby and put it towards a new one....

The -E was(is) a good platform, but the low Video RAM (2.5MB) is -really- lacking for anything other than some older shoot-em-up games (Doom, DukeNukem, Wolfenstein, etc). It is good for web surfing and MP3 playing, but for Divx or TV, naw, it's too little, too slow. For what you would pay for RAM, DVD, HD upgrades for the -E, you can find a 1.13GHz T23 (14" screen, 4.5lbs, better batt life, 16MB VIDRAM) that'll work very nicely for approx $200-250USD. Check these guys out:

I got a number of T23's from them over the last year. They have several T23's ready, for $250USD, or look at the T21's/22's. The -E is a good platform, just for the same money for upgrades, you can start with a better platform.
