Hi guys,

My 600E detects CD's but it doesn't DVD'S.

It's a MATSHITA SR-8171 and I'm using k-lite codepack 2.66 full version.

Anyone knows what's wrong?

Please help.

Are you sure you have a DVD drive in your 600E?

Can you take out the drive and give us the FRU or part number?

You might try searching for that on Lenovo's support site.

According to Google, that model is a DVD-ROM drive. I'd suggest reloading the drivers and trying PowerDVD - if I remember, I originally went with PowerDVD because it supported the NeoMagic chip used on the 600s. It has trouble with other players.

Silly me.

If you can read files on a DVD, then the drive is OK, and PowerDVD is a great suggestion. If you cannot read files, that could be very bad, or the lens could need cleaning... or the disc could be dirty... or....

WahHH Thanx guys for the fast replies!

Well, to tell you the truth it is my older sister laptop and I doubt she will let me take out parts from her laptop.

I tried Powerdvd but... nothing

The worst is that it doesn't even detect I have a dvd inside. It detects when it's a CD but not DVD.

I tried almost everything, googled and searched in the forum but.. nothing helped -______-;;

Are you trying Original DVDs or burnt DVDs?

If you are not able to read anything off of the DVDs, then chances are the DVD drive is going/has gone bad.

You are right!

I can only read from original DVD's! Plus I've only been able to run it under VLC media player.

I think we solved the first problem! My DVD is still able to read stuff but not Burnt DVD's.

Anyone knows how to solve the next problem?

You *may* be able to read DVD-R, but you will not likely be able to read DVD+R at all. And you may not even be able to read any recordable DVD as the drive wasn't designed or built for that purpose.

But I would try a few media types, and DVD-R is more likely to work.
