Hi,
That is correct. The 240X will not recognize the low density chip
and if you try(I have) it will hang up in the start up.
I also own a 240(I'm mental) and the 240 will recognize the low density chip and works great with NO side effects.
A member posted a link to the mythical 192 chip but in fact the
image and reference is to a high density 192 chip and will not work.
The removal of part of the motherboard RAM seems to be the only solution but not many have tried it. I plan to when I get a chance since I own 3 240Xs. Mike.

Somehow I got a feeling that you can find the answers to your questions in the early discussions in this thread.
