Two 600e, 2645-55u with weird problems

Two identical units were running at 300mhz, except one on Win98, the other on Win2000.

1) Suddenly the Win2000 unit tells me the processor is a mere 82mhz. What gives?

2) The Win98 unit won't finish the POST, and no errors.

:? I've tried reseating everything.... have made no major changes of late, but was just ready to install new HDs in both and clean install Win2000 Pro.

Try swapping the two hard drives with each other and see if you have the same problems.

Thanks-- I forgot to mention in the first post that I had actually swapped the drives between units, with no change in results. But for kicks I did it again after your reply. No change... until I put them back one last time to original!

The slow one is back to normal reading, and I swapped HDs a couple more times to see if it holds. I do find it much slower than before, but realize that the 6Gig drive is just about maxxed out, so suspect the swap file is huge and drive in general need of defrag, considering recent ups and downs. But, hey, I'll reformat it soon and use it for a photo archive.

** Unit 2 is still hanging in the POST at the ThinkPad screen, not going beyond. (BTW, I replaced CMOS batt in Aug).

I have an external enclosure so can pull anything I need from the HD. Have installed latest BIOS on both units, but don't want to put the new drives in until I'm sure everything is ok to go! Midnight here now so will hope to get back at it tomorrow.
