I have a 600e and posted this to google.

I have a 600e that I have been trying to get to work again for quite
sometime... I got a white screen and was told it was the inverter.
Changed that - still the same. I was then told that it was the sub sub
card (sp??). Changed that - still the same. I have attached the
skeleton of the laptop to a screen and have seen a 301 and 8611 error -
which are keyboard and trackpoint errors (I did not attach the screen
for testing).

So - any ideas anybody? Thanks.

Bill answered my post and suggested I join this group. I have an additional question - where can I find the FRU so that I can buy the correct system board?? Thanks.

Read this site's FAQ. It has the location for your Hardware Maintenance Manual. In that you will find all of you part numbers.

After replacing the inverter and sub card, and seeing that an external display works, it could be that your display itself is gone. OTOH, it could be a loose cable. I'd open the machine and reseat the video cables, but since you've replaced the inverter, I'm guessing you did that.

I'd try the display next, if it were my machine.

A bad CMOS battery can generate all kinds of error numbers. If you're not sure of yours, replace it. If it's OK, then 8611 means you need a new trackpoint, and those come with a keyboard assembly. You can get parts on eBay, new and used. A broken machine with a working keyboard can be pretty cheap too.

A keyboard for any 600, 600E or 600X will fit in your machine - it might just have the wrong model number sticker on it.

The model type on the keyboard can be carefully removed and replaced on the "new" keyboard. I've changed several and the stickum seems to still hold for the second time.
