I recently bought a ThinkPad 600X second hand. My problem concerns the battery status indicator. It keeps blinking, probably in order to inform me that the battery needs recharging. But this I cannot do, since the battery, according to the seller, is dead. So, how do I turn of this quite annoying light? Should I remove the battery, or is there some other way?

Remove the battery. The light is supposed to blink for a second or two before glowing steady orange. If the light keeps blinking after a few seconds, the battery is most likely shot and the computer is trying to tell you there is something seriously wrong with that battery. If you leave the battery installed, you'll risk frying your computer's motherboard.

When a battery is installed, the battery light should blink only for one or two seconds and then glow a steady orange when charging and a steady green when fully charged or running from battery power.

So again, I advise you to remove the battery because every second you leave it in, you're compromising your computer.

Strangely enough, removing it and replacing it seems to have resulted in a steady orange light. So I wonder, whether the blinking was caused by the battery not being firmly in its place? In any case, I should perhaps check if it turns green, after all?

I really don't need to use the battery. But is there any problem connected with not having a battery in the computer? Since there is no lid protecting the battery there will, at least, be a hole in its place.

Check the battery meter in Windows, see if the battery is taking in charge. If so, then maybe we had a fluke.

Ad for operating the computer without battery, that should cause no trouble unless the power cord accidently comes out.
