I have a 240 with ME on it. There is an option for 1024x768 in the video setting but I want to check if it will work before trying, otherwise I may not be able to get the machine working again with a messed-up video setting. Any experience?

The 240 and 240X I had were max 800x600 resolution. The 240X was actually 800x599 (as I learned trying to set resolution in a Linux VM).

1024x768 works externally

On my 240 under Win 2000 I set the display to 1024x768 and it worked with an external monitor (use the Fn-F7? key to switch displays) hooked up to the VGA connector. When I tried it a week or so ago, I think the display on the laptop itself still worked, but I only saw the top part (maybe upper left corner) of the screen, for obvious reasons. It didn't "shrink" the 1024x768 down to 800x600.

For all 240 and 240x the LCD screen is limited to show 800x600. The system allows you to do 1024x768 but you can only get virtual desktop under that resolution. For some 240z it comes with LCD that is capable of shoing 1024x768 full screen.
All 240 series machines has the capatibility of 1024x768 resolution output on external VGA device, which is more than enough for presentation.
