600E standby switch

Probably during the removal of the keyboard assembly whilst attempting to upgrade the CPU on my 600e, the standby switch that is operated by closing the lid, got damaged. Bruce Guttman in his post No 24377 on Mon Sep 20, 2004, mentions this switch and refers to it as a microswitch. What I have left is the remains of a slide switch (I think!) with just three contacts exposed now the top is off.

My questions are: With none of the contacts connected should I have a display. Laptop seems to run up with normal HD activity and assorted POST beeps but no display. (Incidentally the original CPU has been put back)

If the damaged switch will prevent the display working, does anyone know which pair of contacts should be shorted? I'm hoping Bruce will know.

The alternative seems to be a new sub board. Do they come up on Ebay and is this the correct name?

I would be very grateful for any help.

one can solder the two terminals together beneath the subcard to get the machine working fine(bar the lid closure suspend feature/no great loss)

Laptop Wizard is kindly sending me a couple of sub boards he has spare for which I am very grateful and which should get me going again. However on the track side of the sub board itself the back of the switch shows three contacts from which I guess it is a changeover type. How do you identify which two to short together for normal operation? Then if I ever bust the switch again due to clumsyness I can do a repair.

with the switch upwards + towards your left side,turn it upside down and join the 2contacts together closest to you with pliers ,then solder together
remmeber upside down(closest 2 facing you).
fortunately theres top blokes(such as the person who kindly offered the best solution,but sometimes when stuck you never know.

update :some laptops ie toshiba 1755 work with no mods needed whatsoever in that the button was melted to short the switch to the off position ,by removing the switch alltogether it worked ok.
different laptops have sometimes different polarity means via shorting or not shorting pins together,bare this in mind and you got all laptops covered.
