600e hdd password/mouse button

#1 Post by tonepaq » Mon Jan 23, 2006 8:02 pm

TWO QUICK QUESTIONS MATES- FIRST HOW TO REMOVE THE HARD DRIVE PASSWORD? SOMEHOW I SET IT AND I CANT MAKE IT GO AWAY,I KNOW THE PASSWORD SO I ENTER IT EVERY TIME BUT I WOULD PREFER NOT TO BE ASKED EACH TIME UPON STARTUP.
SECOND- WHAT DOES THE THIRD MOUSE BUTTON DO ON MY LAPTOP? I HAVE HEARD I THINK THAT IF YOU HOLD IT DOWN AND USE THE TRACKPOINT IT SCROLLS THE PAGE, BUT MINE DOES NOTHING. IS THERE A WAY TO CONFIGURE WHAT THAT BUTTON DOES, AND IF SO HOW? THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!

Hmmmm.

The Center button switches between the trackpoint and the mouse, ifa mose is plugged in.

Can't help you on the HDD password.

Yes the center button is for scrolling and using the Trackpoint feature. For it to work properly you have to install the drivers for it from the support pages. If the standalone driver does not work, you may also need the unified thinkpad utility to enable or disable the feature.

As others wrote, the third button acts like a scrollwheel when you have the right driver installed.

To remove the HD password, start with the machine off. When it asks for the password, type it and press SPACE then enter. It will remove the password. BTW, having that password makes the drive unusable if the machine gets stolen, so it might be a good idea to keep it if you travel with the machine.
