Harddisk (40GB) for my thinkpad 600x

#1 Post by badi00ab » Sat Feb 11, 2006 4:57 am

Guys, at the moment i am using a standard 12 GB harddisk for my thinkpad 600x. I've recently been buying a 40GB new harddisk, however, i have problems installing it. I think that i need som kind of a password that i (or the old user) might have been activating back then. Is there anyhow i can undo ALL the paswords for my laptop (i am thinking about harddisk passwpod and other passwords that i use to get into the system)? Thankx...
Regards,

The only thing I can think of at the moment is to remove the 40gb Hdd & re-install your old 12gb Hdd, (or another 12gb of the same part number if your original is not available), then go into easy setup, (by pressing F1 before system boots), & clicking on the Password icon.

You will need the original system password to lift any Hdd Password that may be there.

If that doesn't work, I'm afraid you're either stuck with the 12gb, (if it will still work), or you'll need a new system board.

There are chips available on eBay that can be soldered into place which will clear any passwords but in my opinion, it's not worth the hassle, you may as well look out for a used system board on eBay.

Hope this helps & good luck.
