600E Network card problem

#1 Post by PCWatchman » Sun Feb 12, 2006 12:29 am

My Xterasys 802.11g card worked fine in upper card slot of 600e 2645-5BU for a few weeks. Then I took it out and after rebooting w/o it in, it won't recognize it when I put it in upper slot. Only in lower slot. I like to keep it higher for less chance of putting pressure on it when using it on lap, etc.

I think it's probably just a contacts thing. Try pushing the card in and holding it pressed.

I had the exact same thing happen on my 600E. I even tried a fresh install of W2K, but nothing worked. Oddly enough, diagnostics in the BIOS and Device Manager in Windows indicated no problems. I finally gave up and just resorted to using the bottom slot only. I believe the only fix for this is to replace the motherboard.

Somewhat unrelated; on a Compaq Presario 1900, I had the same problem that GomJabbar did on his 600. The top PCMCIA slot stopped working for whatever reason; as far as I could tell, it was a hardware problem that needed service and nothing I did to the Compaq through the software, including reloading the OS, did anything to fix it.

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.
