I dont suppose anyone can tell me if Samsung memory module M464S3323BN0-L1L 256mg is compatible with the 600e. I had won a 128 mg kingstone on ebay and they sent me this one instead. I cannot find much info on compatibility for this module. Thanks alot for your trouble

Sounds like you might have gotten a great deal. It appears that this might be a Low Density PC100 Stick. Does it have 8 little black squares on BOTH sides? I saw a pic of it, and I saw 8 on one side, but couldn't tell if they were on both.

If they are, then YES it will work. You can always try it. The worst that will happen is that the 600E won't boot.

Hi tfflivemb2, thanks for the quick response, Yes it does have 8 chips on each side. I guess that is the low density chips as I understand it. Yes you are right, the thinkpad boots up to the IBM/Thinkpad Screen and hangs.

Does this mean that I have to update the bios?
You have made me feel a whole lot better.
I guess I will have to give the ebay seller some real positive feedback

Yeah, you might want to update the BIOS to allow the 600E to exceed the 288MB threshold.

tfflivemb2, You've been a great help, I have just bid on an external floppy so when I get it I will flash the bios. I will let you know if I crash and burn :). Thanks again friend

Hi,
I found detailed info on this memory module:

http://www.digchip.com/datasheets/parts ... N0-L1L.php

Although it says "high density memory module" somewhere, I still think it will work fine in your TP 600E because of the "32Mx64" architecture, which is usually what I go by when shopping for RAM for my TP 600E and 600X. The current TP 600E is running on 1 module from Siemens and another from Toshiba, both PC100 and working just fine.

Congratulations! Great deal!

Thanks hjulian

That's great, That is the sort of info I was looking for hjulian. These thinkpads are great.
I don't suppose you can tell me what I can expect when upgrading the CPU. I have upgraded the hard drive to 20gig. The CPU is about all that is left. Thanks again

There is a great sticky at the top of this forum that goes into detail how to upgrade the CPU in these great machines.

Thanks tfflivemb2
