ibm 390x overclock. (seriously)
ibm 390x overclock. (seriously)
k, im a bit of a space cadet and forgot the original 390x only had a 100fsb. now in theory these laptops are capable of 133fsb and an 850mhz cpu... what i need is iether the resistor config to swap the board up to 133fsb or the jumper (thas basically what they are, still a micro resistor configuration i BELIEVE, its been a while since ive done this) to up the cpu multiplier so i can get to around 800mhz on a 100 fsb... iether would work but i would prefer the board fsb to 133 method.... currently my 800mhz cpu is showing up at 650 which meens the multiplier is at like 6.5... i love the modability of the 390x's.

Try reading through the sticky at the top of the 600 & 770 conference, for information on how they had the 600E and 600X models running with 600-850MHz processors, even though they aren't 390Xs.
I haven't tried going beyond the 400MHz ceiling myself, but thought that I would just pass it along, since you are not finding anything.

more is there for the taking but it will require modification to the pll
circuit or swapping the crystal from 14.38 to say 16-17 mghz to raise the overall fsb bus ,unlocking multiplier ratio on all mmc2 cpus seems not possible ,unless some brave warrior ex intel employee is willing to dispel the myth ,if indeed it is one.
you will need to find out exacly which model pll circuit board the 390x incorporates and download the spec sheet to study all possible variables
as far as that chipset is capabe,if the fsb is not enough(ie 108 max)
then you could go for a turbo pll which allows many different speeds
and the highest known speed ever attained by any mmc2 cpu in the planet
was from sharedoc (wims bios)@139fsb.but it took alot of days to setup the turbo pll,for all its worth even if you can mod the existing pll to increase by say 8-10% then with an 850 cpu its possible to go well beyond 900,for that matter i find the 390x with that nice 15"screen very
enjoyable and look forward to overclocking one day soon.
