Just curious about battery

when i had other laptops when i turned off computer battery turned off also. On ibm i have to pull the plug to turn off battery why is that?

If you're referring to the light that comes on when you connect the AC adapter (without turning on the computer), that's probably just the battery charging circuit.

As to why? A design decision by someone at IBM.

If i leave the battery charging circuit light on all the time does it hurt the computer usually just pull the plug out so light goes out

If memory serves, the latest BIOS for the 600-series machines may not charge the battery unless it's below 95%. I don't know exactly how this works, or if it's indeed true for all 600-type machines - I haven't spent a lot of time studying 600-series BIOS code. Perhaps the more knowledgeable folks can chime in here.

It would help to know what type of Thinkpad you have - if it's not a 600, the above may not even apply.
