Thinkpad 760 type 9546 - No Boot - Blinking LED's

#1 Post by GeorgeT » Sat Mar 04, 2006 4:29 am

I have a Thinkpad 760 type 9546 with CD, HD and external floppy. I can't give more details because it won't do anything. Plug it in and turn it on and the 3 led's at the back under the opened screen blink quickly. As a matter of fact they flash if the unit is open or closed. The screen also flashes quickly but the display is very faint and you have to really look to see that it is alternating dark and light horizontal lines.

I browsed the forum and checked the front keyboard pin and it is good. The resume switch at the back seems okay too, though I don't see how to test it.

I pressed the reset button in the docking area at the back and then all three led's came on solid and steady and stayed on, but still it is dead.

Removed and reseated the DIMM's, HD, CD and Floppy but still the same problems.

The bottom of the case does get warm when it is plugged in about half the time, but not always.

Suggestions? Is this unit DOA? Thanks!

GeorgeT
