I have a IBM TP 264551U with a P2 266 Mhz processer running 192 Megs of ram and a 3 Gig HD. The computer on a whole works fine just have an issue with the display. It looks like the back lit LCD screen is broke. It will blink on and off if I hit the function F7 key then disapear again. To use the laptop I have to use a remote control software program to manipulate the computer. This does not make it very mobile. The display is a neomajic 128 XD.
Any help would be great

I am running win 98 SE
Thanks
Tom

On the top left portion of the base of the unit, right above the keyboard, is a small tab that stands proud of the base. This is connected to a switch that turns the display off when the display is closed and on when it's opened.

Check that this tab is moving freely and hasn't been damaged.

Report back.

James

That is working fine. I can see the screen if I shine light on it at a certain angle.

sounds like the backlight has failed..
either the inverter or the backlight itself..
also, slight chance it could be a bad HV cable..
