760EL freezes after startup beep

Hi evereyone I hope someone can help me.

For two days ago I bought a 760EL and it worked ok in the beginning. But, then some of the startups freezed and I had problems accessing the ezsetup F1 menu at the same time. Then the problem disappeard for a few startups and then the computer hang when i left it on but not used it for a while.

Now I can not startup anymore! Maybe three of the times I got the error code 19153 but the rest of the times there is no error code at all just the normal boot up beep and then nothing, dead.
(The last attempts have no error code.)

Doeas anyone please know what is wrong?

I read about 191xx in the hardware manual pdf from IBM and it said PM-error but did not explain what PM means. But this error is not regular now its no error code when i try to start.

(The guy who owned it before said it had been in the closet for two years unused.)

I am not sure what those codes mean, but perhaps your internal CMOS battery is dead and needs replacement? The startup symptoms sound somewhat consistent, although I thought a dead CMOS battery commonly resulted in a "CHECKSUM" error on the screen. It cannot hurt to try a new CMOS battery because they are relatively inexpensive. Also, double-check to make sure your memory module(s) is/are seated correctly and securely and has/have not been jarred loose or haphazardly installed. Good luck!

Disable power management

Thanks for the answer! I have now checked the CMOS battery and it says 2.5V, it should be 3V I think. If I want to replace it can I buy any battery I find wit 3V or do I have to buy expensive from IBM?

Now the computer starts maype 1 out of ten attempts. I've noticed that it hangs if i press Fn-F11 which I think is some power management sleep mode.

Is there a way to disable the power management?

cheers
