600X and games.

#1 Post by Drewski » Sun Apr 02, 2006 3:47 pm

Well I got Half Life 1; the system specs. are quite low and everything on my Thinkpad 600X are much higher. I have 192mb of Ram the NeoMagic 256zx(xz?), and 448MHz. It seems I should be able to run half life very well. Here are the Half Life recommended specs

Recommended

* Pentium 166 MHz
* 32 MB RAM
* OpenGL- or DirectX-compatible 3D accelerator.

The 600X doesn't seem to support OpenGL and has direct X but not the "3D accelerator." Even still, I think half life should be running well. Does anybody know why it would not be running well? Maybe there is something I can download for my graphics card? Thanks.

using the software accelerator I've managed to get Half Life and all the other variations to run quite well on my 400mhz 600E, I just had to tweak the game to tune out some of the fancier elements.

As for minimum spec, the lowest computer I've played Half-Life on was a ThinkPad 760ED with a Pentium 133 and 2mb video. The slowest computer I've had half decent gameplay on was a 380ED with a Pentium 166MMX, 80mb RAM and a 1mb NeoMagic graphics chipset.

By "software accelerator" do you mean the open gl/direct x? If not is it something that I can download? Thanks.

I have a 600E (so a neomagic 256av 2.5mb) but your 600X has a 4mb version as i recall?!? neomagic have lefts the graphics card industry now, and good riddance. Just googling the offending video card will undoubtadly bring up loads of forums full of people trying to get openGL to work, which as far as i can tell no one ever did, even though it was advertised on the cards specs. Anyway you'll basically have to reduce the detail levels or try lower resolutions if running in software mode, i once had halflife running on a PII 233MHZ 32MB RAM, badly!:)
