I can turn on and run fine when I have AC / DC power adaptor plugged in. I can unplug and run on battery packs fine. BUT, if I try to turn on and boot from battery only - no go.

Do I have a bad CR2025 battery or bios battery? Any way to check with out disassembly. If not, is this easy to replace? Suggestions please.

thanks much
Mitch

Firstly, what is the battery state on your LCD (the one on the keyboard)? Are you at 100%?

It's possible that your problem may be due to a bad contact either on the battery or inside the computer. Battery contacts are pretty easy to clean. Getting inside the cavity in the compter is tougher.

The 2025 battery is located in the memory compartment and is easy to remove and test. If it reads under 2 volts with a voltmeter, you definitely should replace it. If it's over 2.5 volts you should be OK. When you remove and replace this battery you will have to reset the date and time.

The other battery requires a lot of disassembly (removal of the keyboard at least) and is much harder to find.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Bruce

Hi Bruce,

I changed the 2025 batery in the memory compartment and the problem is gone, it turns on fine now.

I've this 70e since it was new and I have a T41 now. I plan to upgrade the 770 for wireless use at home and I'm glad I've found this website.

I'll be "stepping up" to Win98SE with a little more memory (256) but I think I'm leaving everything else original. I've never had any problems. I'll download all the Win 98 drivers before I start. My Bios is 1999. Hope that's adequate.

Thanks again,
Mitch
