Can a TP 240 use 512mb of ram? (i.e disable the onboard ram)

If you disable (i.e. remove a chip) of the onboard ram from a 240x, you can enable the system to use all of a 256mb low denisty sodim.

So since the TP240 uses the 440mx (or 440dx) which are rated for a max of 1gb of ram...if you disable an onboard chip, can you then get the system to recognize and use all of a 512mb sodim?

Anyone try this?

would it work in theory? or is the BIOS or someother part of the computer limited to only 320mb of ram?

thanks

I tried putting on 512MB low density ram module on the stripped 240x and it can only recognize 256mb ram. I don't know where the "440MX can recognize 1gb ram" theory came from but I know it can not recognize above 256mb limit.

Who knows, it might be possible if someone found four 16Mx32/8 memory chips and solder onto the board where those stripped chips were, it might give us 256MB plus 256MB(from the addon module) equal total 512mb.
