I would like to try to run Windows XP on my old T600. I don't mind if it is slow. Can anyone tell me the minimum hardware/ software changes that will be required. That is minimum RAM, BIOS etc. I am presently running 98SE.
Thanks

Stuff as much RAM as possible in it,you should be able to get at least 288 in it..If you're willing to spend some EXTRA money you can probably get more then 288,but 2 128,low density + the built in 32 RAM.. That will do you fine.. D/L and flash to the newest BIOS..You should be all set....
XP should see all the hardware in it..If not IBM's web site will have the drivers..

As long as your laptop has at least 128mb RAM and a Pentium II XP should run fine.

Here are the EXACT requirements per Microsoft for XP Pro:
• PC with 300 megahertz or higher processor clock speed recommended; 233 MHz minimum required (single or dual processor system);* Intel Pentium/Celeron family, or AMD K6/Athlon/Duron family, or compatible processor recommended
• 128 megabytes (MB) of RAM or higher recommended (64 MB minimum supported; may limit performance and some features)
• 1.5 gigabytes (GB) of available hard disk space*
• Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher-resolution video adapter and monitor
• CD-ROM or DVD drive
• Keyboard and Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device
That being said, I think you'd need a
minimum of a 300MHz processor and 128mb ram, but recommend 256mb ram.

I saw XP pro running (and i use that term loosley) or functioning on a 380ED of a customer of mine with 64MB of ram, her "computer guy" had installed it for her, this was very amazing to me. I upgraded to 128 and it was like a new machine.

This is just my opinion..But I wouldn't even think of running XP with 128 MB.. At least use 256+ the 32 on-board,that will do you fine..

I've pretty much taken whatever MS says is "recommended" as the minimum and try to at least double that for a working machine. That said; I've found "seat of the pants" performance to vary wildly on different machines. I had a T22 that ran surprisingly well with 256Mb of RAM, but an A22m run noticeably slower on a basically identical load of XPP. I also just finished a reload on an A21e that's very sluggish. I know the Celeron on this thing isn't very quick, but it kinda surprised me.
