IBM Thinkpad 560 2640-FNE Help

#1 Post by nehcha » Wed Apr 12, 2006 7:29 pm

Hi,

Simply put, my IBM Thinkpad 560 won't boot.

In fact, it is the exact same problem as the one posted here and I've tried everything that this person has done to resolve the problem (except I haven't tried to replace the CMOS Battery).

As it is pretty much useless at the moment, I'm willing to try anything really. So, any suggestions?

On a side note, does anyone know the maximum RAM that this laptop can hold?

Actually, when I first got my old old T560 used, it turned out there was a screw loose inside the motherboard and actually conducting over the DC connector.
Amazingly , i removed it, and the laptop has worked flawlessly ever since.

I'd guess that the max ram is probably in the 48mB range (interal 16 + 32 megs?)
You might be able to get it to 80, and I think, I might have once, but, its really not worth it.

I've had issues with my 560e trying to resume from hibernation and getting stuck. The only cure I managed to find was to reboot with my DIMM removed, so that the hibernation image disagreed with the actual memory size. This would cancel the resume and let me get on with life.

It was originally documented as supporting only 32MB, but will take a 64M DIMM in addition to whatever's on-board. I'm not sure if this ability came with a particular BIOS addition, but it definitely works with the last one.

The driver matrix is hard to find nowadays, but is still available at:

The last released BIOS is available there.
