I want a really big hard drive, as I want a multi boot system with windows XP and a few linux distros. What is the largest drive I can get for the thinkpad 600X. Price isn't really an issue, but I obviously don't want to buy an overly expensive drive.

Anything!
Haven't hit the BIOS size limit on the 600X yet and I've personally had 100GB HDs in one.
Get whatever size you want from either
www.Zipzoomfly.com or
www.newegg.com.

OK, cool.
I just need to know what exact type and size of drive to get.
And can I have some confirmations on this "any size" theory?

Basically what JHEM said is true, but the newest Seagate momentus 5400.3 160GB is not
recognized by the TP600X BIOS due to the 137GB capacity barrier so you need to install
DDO to make it work. Perhaps Seagate DiscWizard may work but I'm not sure about that.

Oops! Forgot about the 160GB Seagate.
With that ONE exception, the 600X will "see" any of the other recent offerings, up to and including the latest 120GB 7200RPM models from several vendors.

Then you'll have to give us a better idea of what you'll use it for, your user level, etc., etc.
You can't go far wrong with the Hitachi 7K60 for the money, makes the 600X a whole new machne. Same goes for the Hitachi 7K100.
