600E HD Cloning

EDIT:

Hopefully someone comes back to check this out- More questions...

Tell me if I have what I need to do the clone/transfer-

2nd hard drive module
new hard drive
acronis trueimage

Will this swap work if I clone the drive and save it directly to the 2nd hard drive in the module? Don't I have to format the drive first too?? I submitted this as a new post since no one is checking this one out, and lo and behold it was deleted. Thanks!

Hello, my name is Dan and I'm new around here.

I have a 600E and was originally looking to upgrade the CPU but I don't want to get in too deep. I slightly prefer a working laptop over the paper weight side of it.

I've decided to at least swap out the hard drive with a newer one. I think I can locate one on my own, but if you know of a good one let me know. I found a Hitachi 5200rpm for $60, I think it was a 20 or 40gig. I don't need a terabyte or anything so that'll do.

If I use a utility to clone the drive, will it ask me where I want to save it to? I would assume so. Because obviously if I clone my drive I can't exactly store the image on itself due to limited space. Can I store it to my network which would just throw it on my desktop computer? Could it really all be so simple? The transfer would probably take 3 weeks but that's the least of my worries. I just want it to work!

I've read about AccessIBM and other utilities- Anyone who has experience on a 600E (if the computer itself even matters) please let me know- Don't want to screw this up!! I did just check in that program and there is nothing to do with cloning, backups, etc.

If this is covered somewhere else, just point me to it.

Thanks in advance,

Dan (dsigma6)

Dan, I just cloned a 60g 7200rpm HD for my 600e this past weekend. Get yourself Acronis trueImage 9 and a usb HD enclosure, put the target drive in the enclosure, load acronis on your laptop and follow the wizard, it takes about 30 minutes.
