Maximum screen resolution and colour on Thinkpad 390X

I have just come into possession of a 390X. I have reformatted the unit and installed OS win 98 2nd Ed. All has gone OK apart from the screen resolution which in display I can only get to go to 16 colours, 640x480 pixels.

I have set the ;-

adapter = Standard PCI Graphics Adapter
monitor = IBM Thinkpad 800x600 LCD panel

I have been through almost all combinations available in the list and have downloaded drivers from the ibm thinkpad site but still no luck .

Anyone know what the settings should be to save me a whole heap of time !!!

I would be most appreciative.

Many Thanks

Nigel

this should be: neomagic blabla 256bla

apparently wrong or missing driver...

get and install the video driver from here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... SHY-45ZHHL

and you'll get your full resolution with 24bit colors...

Thanks gbm31 for the reply.

I have the driver above and have now loaded the adapter

:- NeoMagic MagicGraph 128 PCI

- There are no options for a 256.

BUT I now have the options under colour for 256 and High Colour (16 Bit) that I didnt have before but still the resolution will not focus and all the pictures are very blurred -- any further thoughts??

Thanks

Nigel

hi nigel,

there's still something wrong. i've had a 390x myself and i'm sure it has the big brother of the neomagics.

[edit:]

look here: http://thinkwiki.org/wiki/Category:390X

so, until you're not shown the magicmedia 256av, your graphicsboard isn't recognized right.

or did someone play around with your tp? it sure is a 390x?

which processor do you have? (the mmc has the whole thing on it)

Thanks gbm31

You were right. From your link I was able to find out that I had the 14" screen and thus the monitor I had installed was too small. But also I think I hadnt installed the driver correctly as when redone and saved to a seperate location I was able to get the 256 option. All now working a OK

Many Thanks

Nigel

sorry for my late answer, but i also have some other things to handle in rl (like family, job... ;) )

i'm glad you managed to solve it yourself, congrats!

could only be the drivers...

have fun with your thinkpad.

btw: one thing i didn't like about my 390x:

try playing some videos. preferably mpegs. the p2-400 is fast enough, but...

i had xp on my 390x, and the integrated video driver (there are no separate drivers for 2k/xp actually..) doesn't accelerate mpegs.

so, i wasn't able to play videos at decent quality and speed.

might be 98se drivers have this feature enabled, cause the neomagic has a good aceleration for videos.
