i1480 dvd-rom question

#1 Post by languy99 » Wed May 03, 2006 2:37 am

well i just took apart my i1480 to fix a couple of problems number one is the dc-dc board, the dc jack solder joints came undone, i will fix that tomorrow, but my main question is about the dvd-rom, when the computer was working it was not, i though i had a bad rom, tonight i took it out and got a part number 05K9260 that's fine and dandy but when i look on the IBM maintenance manual it says it should be a 05K9258, what should it be the date on the dvd rom i have matches the date on the battery same month day and year, my model number is 2621-480, if that's any help i need to know if its the wrong one and if new drivers would help it would, because i don't want to buy another one if this one is good and i can get it working. also when it was installed it would open when pushing the eject button and the light would come on, but windows would say the drive is empty and also the i1480 has a external music player that would not work either.

ok i got the dc jack resoldered, and put some superglue between the dc jack and the circuit board to offer it more support, put the computer back together again and started it, problem fixed, yay. now i still have the problem with the dvd-rom not working , when i put any media in it is says (insert disk into drive d) and thats it, under device manager there are no question marks or anything windows xp recognizes it, do you think the dvd rom is bad or is it a software problem ,because it opens and even spins the disc it just does not read it.

Are you using an original disk or a burnt disk to test it?

i have used every kinda of disc possible, also the i1480 has a music feature that lets you play a cd without having the computer on, and that does not work either, it just does not read the disc.

i just rechecked the drive the cd does not spin, it just looked like it was when i opened drive because it would turn a little when pulling it out, so it does not spin up, that means what a bad drive? what about firmware update?

Sounds like either a bad drive, the wrong drive, or a bad connection.

Not much help, I know.

This is a long shot, may not work for you. About 2 years ago the DVD in my i1441 was behaving erratically. I replaced the CMOS battery (possibly for another reason) and the drive worked fine after that.

Good luck,

well what you replaced the coms battery all you did was reset cmos to default settings, i already did that and it did not help.
