I got a hard drive module that goes where the cd/floppy drive is- It fits in but seems to hang out the slightest bit further than the cd drive- concern?

also, i put it in, WIHOUT a 2nd drive in it, but the remove hardware deal doesnt show the device- is that because the hard drive isnt in it?

any info would be great before i start to unnecessarily complain to the ebay seller lol.

My HDD module sits perfectly flush, same as the CDRW drive.

I did have a CDRW drive that stuck out a little because it had a different bezel.

Are you sure that it is seated completely.

i dont understand why its giving me any trouble- as far as i can tell its in correctly, but with this kind of thing its either in or it isnt. not like i can see the connections coming together inside the laptop. i guess i can only find out once i put a hd inside of it.

but can you answer if it would show up on the eject hardware list without the hd in it? seems to me its possible that it would need some actual electronic component inside of it for it to be picked up.

thanks

Correct. It's not showing up because there are no electronics in it, simply an IDE passthrough. Needs a HD in it before the BIOS or OS will "see" it.

Why not give us the FRU part number off the top of the unit and we can all stop guessing whether or not you have the correct one?

James

I agree, a part number would be helpful. I further agree that it will not register without a hard drive in it.

you guys are more than helpful every time!!

i already confirmed the serial number and looks to be the right part- that is, according to the "internet."

It shows two numbers:

05K5338
05K5337

i actually bought it after someone in another 600e post linked to an ebay seller they apparently didnt support, but in the process got them the sale.
