Memory failure on 600E

Hi,

I've a 600E (2645-5BG) which had 96Mb (32 base + 64) of memory until the other day. I tried to install a new memory card, with 256Mb (IBM ref. 33L3069) to speed it up. I gather this is at a 100MHz bus speed, but should work on this model.

When it didn't work in the second slot (wasn't recognised), I removed the 64Mb module and tried the 32+256 configuration. This gave me recognised memory of 32Mb. I then replaced the 64Mb in the first slot and went back to the original confguration.

Now, the 64Mb is not recognised either - I'm stuck with 32Mb. On Windows Xp, this is s..l..o..w ....

Have I burned the slot? All ideas welcome!

Thanks

Make sure the chips and the slots are clean. Blow any dust out of the slots and use a toothbrush damp with isopropyl alcohol (with comptuer power off and cmos battery, main battery and ac power disconnected) to clean the inside of the slots. Next use a qtip soaked in isopropyl to clean the gold contacts on the bottom of the memory chips. After everything has completely dried, try reinstalling the RAM and powering on the computer.
