560X question

Hello All,

I used to have a 560X, and when I had a problem with it, I got some very useful advice here, so I thought I would come back. My mother currently owns a 560X, and recently, when one turns it on, you can hear the hard drive motor start to go, and the power light comes on, but the screen never even seems to attempt to come on, and after the initial start up, you don't hear much else from the computer by way of functioning. To see if I could discern if the display was the problem or not, I attached the 560X to its docking station, and then hooked up the monitor, keyboard, and mouse of my mother's desktop into the station, and powered up the laptop. Again, nothing seemed to happen.

I have a couple of questions: 1) should the 560X, when closed and attached to a docking station that is connected to an external monitor, keyboard, and mouse, defer to those external devices? If it does not do it automatically, is there some way I can make this happen? 2) Does anyone recognize the symptoms I have mentioned who can offer me advice? I'm not a computer expert, but I have opened up a 560X and played with it before, so I am not afraid to do the same here.

Thanks to any and all who can help!

I thought about my problem some more, and played with the laptop a little, and discovered that even after it is turned on, pressing the "caps lock" and "num lock" keys does not result in either the caps lock or num lock indicator light coming on. I figure this means the computer is failing to boot at some fundamental level, which explains why the display never seems to even be engaged by the CPU. Any ideas on what is wrong, if it is fixable?

Hey all,

I looked through some old threads on this site and solved my own problem. Turns out that the PCM/CIA Ethernet card was interfering with the boot somehow in some way. From now on I guess I'll search first, post second!
