if it helps i could run a 600e with XP pro, so 366mhz, 2.5mb video but with 288mb ram. So if you have a 366mhz 570 then it should run fine aslong as youve got at least 192mb (fine as in good for office, mp3s etc, not flash or DVDs)

so upgrading the RAM is key here. ive just picked me up one of these off ebay but im using Win98 for back compatability with a few games (and a free copy of XP office:p).

Pentium II with 128mb RAM should be sufficient. I find overal performance of XP to be similar to 2000 on my 600E but the boot times on XP are shorter and DVDs playback pretty good under XP as opposed to 2000 which played them horribly on the occasions where it didn't just refuse to play at all.

WinXP on TP-570E-2644

I have been running XP Pro on a 570E-2644 for 8 months. It was a challenge getting it on, I still don't know why. I also installed XP Home on an identical machine. Also had difficulty with the install. The XP Pro works very well. The XP Home still doesn't have audio drivers that work or the display adapter drivers for the specific hardware (NeoMagic). The video is working well with the default drivers. I have not been able to install the audio driver (CrystalFusion), even though the system properly detects the hardware.

That's odd. Windows XP Pro had zero trouble with my 600E's video and audio and it uses the same hardware as the 570.

Thanks Bill, so I guess I'll hold off on buying another XP Pro Upgrade until I figure this out.

can you tell me how you were able to get 192 meg of ram on your 570, or do you have a 570e.

According to the official twbook.pdf file from IBM support, the 570 has 64mb RAM soldiered to the motherboard. This combined with a 128mb RAM chip in the single expansion slot will give you 192.

as above it takes one 128meg module plus the whats on the motherboard (64) its running great pity i cant justify keeping both this and my A31P so if any one is looking for a 570 and wants to make me an offer lol

the seller put void warranty stickers over everything underneath, so im a bit hesitant to take them off. i think im hearing the inverter frequency, so who knows what im gonna do with this thing.

it did indeed only have a 64mb card in it. i took it out and replaced with a 256- now it's up to 320mb and running smooth like my 600e.

I've got XP pro running smoothly on a 570 with just 64mb of ram. Isn't that amazing? I love thinkpads!

well im running xp pro with 128mb on a 570- its ok if you just look at it, or open up 1 ie/firefox window. but add in a/v and firewall, the thing is crying for help. with 64mb, it would be better suited for writing in notepad.
