i1200 Battery Problem

#1 Post by eightysix » Tue May 30, 2006 3:59 pm

Hey guys, I just recently bought an i1200. However, I've been having problems with the Ni-MH battery.

When I first got it, the laptop wouldn't turn on without the AC adapter. First, the battery light would turn green, then half green and half orange, and then just to orange to recharge. But, when I check if it's charging, the battery is stuck at 3%!

Then I bought a Li-Ion battery for it and the laptop worked and displayed the green battery icon... for a while. I used it for about 30 minutes and it still had about 2 hours worth of charge left. I didn't turn on the laptop for about a week and when I tried to again, it wouldn't boot and the battery indicator completely disappeared! I plug the AC adaptor in and check if it's charging, and it just so happens that the battery is ALSO stuck at 3%!

Now, the only way to get my laptop to turn on is with the AC adapter. I'm not quite sure what's wrong with my laptop, but I have a few ideas. Could it be a simple CMOS problem or should I replace the AC adapter all together? Am I supposed to hear a beep when I plug in the AC adapter or not? I know this is the case with other Thinkpads. Any other suggestions?

Which i1200? Not all of them work with LiIion batteries.

I'm using a Japanese version of the i1200 which I'm sure supports Li-Ion batteries. The thing is, both my Li-Ion AND Ni-MH batteries suffer from the same condition.

Bumping this up...

Is there anyway to know the status of your CMOS battery? I'm thinking that this may be the culprit.
