240 resolution fun & mouse problem

Obviosuly installing an OS on this little machine is pretty hard going. so i took the easy option.

1) I installed XP home on my 600e using the 240 hard drive
2) I put the hard drive back in the 240
3).....the end!

ok there was a few restarts and LOTs of new hardware found;) but all in all great. I noticed that i could change the resolution to 1024 - 768, but when i do the resolution doesnt shirnk, it just leaves portions fo the screen out, but interstingly moving the mouse around means that i can navigate the to all parts of the screen very easily, seems a pretty good option for people with cramped desktops with lots of windows open etc, but im not sure that this is a "feature" out the box as it were, and was interested in whether other people had been able to achieve this.

also, one problem is that the mouse buttons on the laptop dont click, i can still use the "eraserhead" but just cant click without an external mouse, does anyone have the driver or something that would make the buttons work? help would be much appreciated!:)

The oversized resolution (1024x768) is so called "virtual desktop" mode. I also found it comes handy once a while.

For no click problem, sometimes it just needs a little bit soap and water. After you remove the mouse button assembly, pop-up the littl red clip thingy that holds each button in place and use soft lint free tissue paper with little moisture on it to wipe the clear runnber thing and the socket clean. When people spill sugar drink (ex. pepsi) or use their sticky fingers to work on computer this sort of thing happens.

How big is your hard drive? It's my understanding that this method won't work for drives bigger than 6.4GB.

mines a 10gb hard drive, although i partitioned it to one 9000mb partition. but yes it does infact work:)

update on the mouse, ive been unable to access the mouse buttons, and in anycase i suspect it is a driver problem as the laptop is in great condition, especially the keyboard etc so sticky buttons is probably unlikely to be the problem. if anyone has the driver (on the ibm website its not available for w2k or xp, as it "comes with" the os?) id be really greatful:)

update! i have managed a work around for this niggling problem, although it still means i cant right click. ive activated the tap function of the eraserhead mouse, so i can simply lightly tap it to click, and ive also activated the drag ability so i can move scroll bars and windows etc. finally i dont have to carry round my lovely yellowing trackball mouse everywhere!

so with the battery and wireless card im finally free, and takes the portability to another level:)

The mouse buttons use PS/2 controller to communicate with your thinkpad. It's a common and simple configuration. For your mouse button problem there are two possibilities I can think of:
1. You short the PS/2 controller by 'hotplug' the PS/2 device through the PS/2 port.
2. The mouse button cable is not connected to the mainboard properly. It might be loose connection or oxydized terminus.
