TP 600E doesn't boot after CPU-Upgrade to P3 500

Hi

I have upgraded the CPU of my TP 600E (2645-5A0) with bios INET36WW (Date 11/20/99) from a P2 366 to a P3 with 500 Mhz (PML50002001AA). After restarting the notebook it can't boot WinXP. It restarts early in WindowsXP booting. If i go into tho bios, it freezes in the first screen, but shows me a P2 with 500Mhz.

I've tested the following with no effort:
- changed the bit in the bios to get no error 127.
- disable internal RAM.
- test with different RAM configurations (I have 2x 128MB 100Mhz)
- plug off the CMOS-Battery -> Now the Bios freezes on the Screen where i can set the Time/Date

I've used the original cpu-cooler from my P2 366. Can it be that the cpu gets to hot?
What else can it be?

Thanks for helping me

i think i remember reading that the 600e can only take up to a 400mhz celeron or something like that. do yourself a favor and read "The official 600 Upgrade and general information Topic" sticky just two posts up from here.

Hi,

I've already read the above thread and many other threads in this forum. There are many user who changed their cpu on TP 600E to a P3-cpu.

The 600E can handle up to a PIII 750 and still be stable. I think that there were some that were able to use a PIII 850, but others that have tried had stability problems.

My 600E has a PIII 750, which has physically had speed step disabled and runs at 600MHz.

Celeron is almost always a no. Some have claimed to have done it, but not many.
