Umm... well I've never opened up a 760, where is the hard drive located? And is there any way I can remove it without taking the entire case apart?

Sorry for my noobness regarding this laptop, I'm just confused by IBM's "Snap-it-together" type plastic construction on this particular machine :p

First try reading the FAQ, including #8.

That's no biggie though, I've downloaded a 600 odd MB file over dial up before, just left the PC on for 48 hours solid XD

Now to another slightly erm... odd question.

Do you know if 'Black Back' CD-R discs work in the "default" CD-Rom drive that comes with the 760?

Because regular CD-Rs don't seem too, and I just want to make sure before I expend any money on black back discs. :p

Man, I understand about the dialup thing. I was stuck having to use it a few weeks back, and it was a nightmare.

On the brightside though, the HMM is VERY useful and worth the amount of time it would take.

As for the CDs, if I remember correctly, (AlphaKilo470 please chime in) the older systems might not be able to read homemade CDs. I could be wrong though. It might just depend on the age of the drive itself. I had a CD-ROM for a 600 that refused to read ANY CD that wasn't original.

I think that I read on here somewhere that if it will read burnt CDs, it might require burning them on the slowest setting possible.

Even though I have a few 760s, I don't use them frequently.

Back when I still used a 760ED on a daily basis, the CD drive could read most burned CDs though it did have the occasional struggle but that wasn't too often. That CD drive really was better than one might give it credit for. This was the 4x CD drive that shipped with the 760CD and the first generation 760EDs. My experience might have been different from others though.

Hmm, I tried a few other brands of CD-R, it "sort of" read some of my PC Line Black discs, so I think tomorrow I may try some Black-Back memorex discs... you know, those ones that are designed specifically for drives that have trouble with CD-Rs.
