570 Max RAM?

#1 Post by dsigma6 » Wed Jun 21, 2006 7:25 am

I read that the 570 takes up to 128mb in the RAM slot, and has 64mb soldered to the MB for a whopping total of 192MB. I saw in some post that someone had a 256mb card in theirs, was there a BIOS update? I checked IBM but couldn't find the changes for the most recent update.

edit: I just read on the zurich.ai.mit.edu thinkpad board that you can add a 256mb card...but I don't like to believe everything I read on the internet!...Can anyone back that up?

YES.........

A 570 can be upgraded to 64+256= 320mg of ram!

I believe a 570E can only go up to 192 total, though.

According to the twbook.pdf, the 570e will ALSO take a max of 320MB ram.

i didnt think twbook would reflect any changes since the model came out- well at least this machine wont be completely worthless. i can deal with 320. thanks to both of you for the clarification.

im going to try the same pc133 256mb that i used in my 600e.

edit: memory above works fine in the 570. now running with 320mb.

256 RAM

#7 Post by RfromR » Mon Nov 20, 2006 12:49 pm

Interesting discussion above 8)...

I'd also like to upgrade my 570 with more RAM, but since it officially doesn't go that high, the various webshops only offer 128 for that model TP.

That makes it a bit hard to find out which specific 256 RAM I can buy for the TP 570.

Can anybody give me a part# for the 256 RAM that worked on his/her 570 (or any other specific information)?

Thanks!

YMMV: I pulled out a 256MB PC100 module with Kingmax chips from a 600X where it worked just fine, and my 570 didn't see it at all.

I pulled a Crucial module from the same 600X and (so far) it works fine in that same 570. My advice: Stay with the big brands.

Can't argue with that, though in the past I've had excellent results with datamemorysystems.com - then again, I'm rather cheap!
