Changing the TP600 Lion CGR18650HM Li-Ion into Li-Polymer

#1 Post by kocoman » Thu Jun 22, 2006 2:44 am

I found this on the http://www3.sympatico.ca/milnoc/TP600Battery/
but it doesn't say how he connected them? I know that 2 cylinders of 3.7 (is connected in parallel for more maH), then it is connected in series to get 10.8V. But I am scare of connecting it wrong and blow up the battery and hurt my skin with acid. Does anyone know how to connect it that can show me? I think I contacted Paul G a few years ago but I don't remember what his email address is now. ? Thanks

Paul G. has this information for us.

I'm writing to follow up my earlier Email about the ThinkPad 600 battery pack. I have replaced the cells in one of my dead packs with three 3000 mAH Kokam Lithium Polymer cells at a total cost of about $75 ($25/cell). They fit nicely, stacked one on top of the other. So far they are performing flawlessly, with slightly less run time than the OEM pack. This is to be expected since they are 3000 mAH (3AH) instead of 3200 mAH (3.2AH) like the OEM packs.

maybe im missing something, but whats the point in changing to polymer if it costs more and runs less?

I agree, those these prices could be dated a bit, based on the age of that website.

For that price, you could easily get a 4400mAh battery, instead of a 3000mAh battery.

Even IBM was still selling new 3200mAh batteries for $59.00.

Here's some info on Li-Po cells:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium_polymer

There's some interesting information about Li-Po compared to Li-Ion. One of the things it says is that they are less hazardous if mistreated, although you need special charging circuitry to avoid "fire and explosion". Kinda of mutually exclusive if you ask me :D .
