Pro's&Con's of using PCDoctor/How to keep this 600X Heal

I am transcibing on the 600X, with the Faulty Samsung HD MP0402H 40GB ATA100 5400rpm 8MB. I really cannot say it is faulty:
@ BIOS, was old - 1999(Has been upgraded to 2001)
@ Memory, was at 128(Has been upgraded to 578)
After installing Windows XP Pro w/SP2, Norton Corp. 10, System Conf Utilities, NetGear Driver I ran a CHKDSK /f /r, with fix errors and it came back with an over abundance of un-readibles and orphan files. - it fixed / deleted the files.
Back to the question:
What do I need to keep this 600X healthy and to dignose what is wrong with the hard drive/PC?

ADMIN EDIT: I've deleted your "Poll" as it was asking for assistance, not offering a selection as to preferences.
If any HD utility is reporting that many errors on the drive, it's time for a new one!
Get the HD utility from Samsung for your drive and test it again.
PCDoctor is an excellent all-around utility, but sometimes it's better to use a hardware utility, when available, from the manufacturer.
Regards,
James

At BEST, that HD you have is suspect IMHO.
Get a new one.

Nah, the 600 series make lousy boat anchors.keesesp wrote:After that it is a boat Anchor!!
You need at least three of them in order to form a proper shank and flukes, otherwise they just keep keep plowing out, like a poorly made Bruce clone!
Seriously, the 600X is a keeper. Put a 7K60 or 7K100 in that puppy and it will fly!

TIMEOUTTIMEOUT!!!
No!!!! The HadDrive!!!
It went bellie up, So I went for the 60GB 7200RPMs-Seagate..
Was $149.USDs, procured with S&H for $108.USDs..
Taking the long Partition Format, to install Win XP Pro w/SP2.
Because the other one would not let me do it, it hung at 8%..
