ADSL Broadband help please.
600E 2645-8bg
Have the 600E running smoothly...can connect with the modem..can connect with wireless card...internet is fast...great.
What i want to do is use the Speedtouch - Broadband - connection i use on the R51...software installs ok but won't connect...obviously something missing - i think!
What does this 600E need to be able to use the ADSL connection...is there something that needs upgrading...managed BIOS and memory...all working smoothly.
Learning a lot lately but still a numpty with PC terms/whats what ect.

I don't understand your problem. If the 600E connects both wired and wirelessly to your DSL modem or router, what's the problem?
And what is "Speedtouch - Broadband"?

James

I can connect wirelessly...i can connect with the dial up modem.
Speedtouch is the software and modem for ADSL Broadband from my ISP.
I load the software...connect the modem same as i do on this one and...nothing...connections dead....wont even dial...tried the diagnostics on the software disc and it tells me there is a problem with the computer...doesn't say what though!
Being virtually computer illiterate when it comes to configuring things...i have to read and then read again 'til it sinks in...on a learning curve though
i was just wondering if there was something needed on an old laptop for Broadband...a setting or something or whatever?
SO......if wireless and dial up works i should be able to use the Broadband modem...it must be a problem with the software then.

WHAT are you connecting to when you use WiFi? A local or neighborhood Wireless Access Point? A shared internet connection on your R51? A wireless router connected to your ADSL modem?
Did your ADSL provider give you a modem or router to use with your service? Which one?
What OS are you running on the 600E?
WITH if you have WiFi on the 600E do you want to be bothered dragging a wire around the house?
I guess I'm stumped on what it is you're attempting to accomplish. Basically, if you have WiFi access to your ADSL modem, you have no need to install and run the "Speedtouch - Broadband" software at all, it's not needed to access the modem, just to supplant it.
Oh, and if you're attempting to connect to the phone line with the 600E INSTEAD OF via the modem, it won't work unless the modem is turned off or disconnected.
More data please.

James

I run the R51 wirelessly through a router.
The 600E i bought very cheaply and it's almost immaculate...updated the BIOS...upgraded the memory...fresh install of XP pro...runs beautifully.
I borrowed my grandsons wireless card to check it out and it uses the same connection on my router...no problems...shared internet connection on my R51.
Netgear Router...same make wireless card.
The machine i am giving to a young nephew...they don't have a router but have a broadband connection on an old PC...Speedtouch same as i have - provided by ISP -...until they are a little more flush with money and buy a router and card they want to use the Broadband connection they already have.
I thought i'd try to get it running with my Broadband modem before i took it down to them...only as i said it takes me a while to understand things and do them the correct way...still learning so i just thought i may have to update/upgrade something.
EDIT my ISP gave me the Speedtouch Broadband modem...i used it with a desktop before i bought this wireless lappy...i then used it with this R51 until i bought a Router... Netgear... but i still have the same ISP and use the Router to connect to the same ADSL line...tried installing it on the 600 but can't connect with it.
Sorry i confuse myself at times
