600e motherboard swap

#1 Post by vanaya » Sun Jun 25, 2006 11:15 am

I have a 2645-5bu that gives error codes 161 and 163. I replaced the cmos battery and still same error codes. The mb that is originally in is fru 10L1410. I bought a mb fru 10L1191 on ebay but it will not boot. This mb also has another sticker that has a fru of 30L2872.

Did I buy the correct motherboard??
Can anyone please help??

Was the CMOS battery new or from another system?

Did you reset the date and time after replacing the CMOS battery?

Is there a password on the new board that is preventing you from setting the date and time?

The battery was new, i did the heat wrap for the leads.

I don't know how to reset date. When i power on it ask me for password. (computer icon with lock next to it.) I don't remember it, so I just hit enter and it gives me the big error screen with same error codes.

On the new mb the screen is black. I think it was for a different machine-type, and will not boot.

The lack of the password is why you keep getting the error. Without the password, you can't get into the BIOS to reset the date and time.

Unfortunately, there is no inexpensive work around. There are companies out there that will "unlock" it for you, but you are looking at more than the price of another systemboard for a 600E.

As for the screen being black and the system not booting, you might need to check your connections...unless it was a bad board. The FRUs are ok, they are both for a 13.3" 600E.

So the password is limited to the mb?

Would anyone like to test this mb? I will be willing to ship to help a fellow tp user.

The supervisor (BIOS) password is stored inside a special memory chip on the motherboard and cannot simply be cleared by removing the CMOS battery, shorting out pads, brute force password cracking program, etc.

A question about the replacement motherboard from eBay: Did it come with its own CPU module or did you use your existing one? If it already had a CPU you may be able to swap them and see if that's the problem.

I have also sent a PM to you. Check your inbox for my message.
